Both BY SURPRISE and HIGHTIDE HOTEL exemplify the midwest-inspired sound that's emerged in Philadelphia over the past few years. What's interesting about this split though, is that both bands represent the stylistic diversity within the genre. On one hand, you've got By Surprise dishing out rippers in the vein of BRAID and THE GET UP KIDS. While on the other side, Hightide Hotel brings it JOAN OF ARC and CAP'N JAZZ-style.
Both of these bands are awesome. This recording features members of STREET SMART CYCLIST, HOLLOWS, and SNOWING. The vinyl has hand stamped labels. Cool!
